Chapelle Notre Dame de la Medaille Miraculeuse
About Saint Catherine Labouré and Miraculous Medal
In 1830, Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Catherine Labouré, a Seminary Sister, in order to offer the world a medal. Virgin Mary told her that anyone who would be wearing the medal would receive great graces.
The first vision was on July 18th 1830. Saint Catherine Labouré woke up in the middle of the night, after hearing a voice that was asking her to go to the chapel. Once she got there, the Blessed Virgin Mary herself told her that she had been charged with a mission, and she will have to tell her “spiritual director all that passes in her”.
The second vision was on November 27th 1830. Saint Catherine had once again a vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It occurred while meditating. The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared in an oval frame, standing up on a globe, and with a globe in her hands, lights where coming out of her fingers, and off her different colored rings.
On the oval frame, a message given by the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared:
“O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”
On the back of the medal, a letter M was written and on top of it, a cross was
appearing.
The Blessed Virgin Mary asked Saint Catherine to tell her confessor that anyone who would be wearing the medal would receive great graces. Saint Catherine began distributing the medals to heal and cure people.
